Volunteer Career Panels

For today’s youth, choosing a profession could be daunting. They often receive information online or through their friends which sometimes provides an inadequate perspective on what these choices entail in real life.

We believe conversations with experienced folks will empower the next generation to make better career decisions and ultimately have a more fulfilling life.

SpeakerPost's Volunteer Career Panels seek to help students discover their passions and their career paths through interaction with educators and industry professionals.

Program Details

This program is a free, volunteer-focused initiative. As part of this program, we will help curate online panels for you based on your specific requirements as well as the availability of SpeakerPost community volunteers.

The program is collaborative and a fair partnership between the SpeakerPost community and the participating schools and colleges.

Elements of the Program

  • SpeakerPost will arrange for 3-5 volunteer experts from different industries who will speak with your students about their profession, industry and career experiences at a pre-planned 60-90 minute virtual event

  • SpeakerPost will talk with all panelists and confirm their fit and availability before the event

  • In collaboration with your team, SpeakerPost will -:

    • Coordinate with two school representatives (one who moderates and one who hosts) the discussion and the Q&A sessions
    • Create and finalize panel discussion topics and questions tailored to youth-focused conversation topics such as:
      • Different jobs in _____ industry

      • Required skills for success

      • First five years in the _____ industry

Our panelists are volunteers who are choosing to take time out of their lives to help students. There are no monetary gains here. For this reason, we are particular on the school commitment.

We expect the participating schools and universities to:

  • Choose an event lead who is available for scheduled panel planning meets

  • Provide clarity on the discussion topics

    • For e.g. a career panel on business or social sciences

  • Come up with a plan to encourage attendance and to maximize distribution

    • Make the session part of a participation / assignment grade or mandatory attendance

    • Send out reminder emails to attend the panel / add it to school calendar

    • Record the session and share it with other students

    • Invite faculty to participate as panelists or to ask questions

  • Create a zoom link, send out a calendar invite and run the session

  • Acknowledge the contribution of SpeakerPost panelists publicly, via social media tagging and/or newsletters
